DB-1 Dual Backpack Blower Rack use and installation instructions. IMPORTANT MUST READ! Care must be taken when selecting a mounting location. With blowers secured in the rack, make certain: There is enough clearance when in a jackknife situation. No part of the rack or blowers exceeds the width of the trailer. The rack is attached to a substantially strong member of the truck or trailer. Be aware of the added height of the trailer. IT IS THE USERS SOLE RESPONCIBILITY TO ASSURE THE RACK IS INSTALLED SAFELY AND SECURELY AS TO ADEQUATEELY SUPPORT THE RACK AND BLOWERS AND THAT BLOWERS ARE ATTACHED AND SECURED TO THE RACK BY A SUFFECENT STRUCTURAL COMPONENT ON THE BLOWER. The rack must be attached at two points along the upright at least 12 inches apart using both 3/8" by 2&1/2" bolts and self locking nuts provided or the equivalent. (see # 1 in fig. A) When drilling the upright make certain all holes are centered. After attaching the upright, determine the correct attachment points for both back rest (determined by each specific blower) and install each rest to the upright (on the same side as the hooks) using one 5/16" by 2' bolt and self locking nut for each rest. (see # 2 in fig. A) A hole is punched into each end of the rest for the attachment of a stretch cord which should be used to prevent blowers from swinging on the rack. The spring loaded latch assembly supplied with your rack MUST BE installed before use. Using locking pliers, tightly hold the latch pin and securely tighten the ball knob onto the pin. Next, screw the latch assembly into the threaded barrel on the sliding mechanism and tighten. NOTE: The threaded collar on the latch has a locking compound pre-applied to the threads to prevent the latch from loosening. The locking compound will fully cure 24 hours after assembly. Make certain the latch functions smoothly and fully engages when the slide is lowered. Lubricate latch regularly. Install the plastic press-in cap into the top of the upright. Make certain, that there is sufficient clearance underneath of any blower installed into the upper position, so that the slide can be fully raised without coming into contact with the blower. HINT: To simplify loading blowers into the rack, the hook engagement tabs have been designed with extra length built in. (see # 3 in fig. B) Using the left hand, position the blower with the frame or other part of the blower which will not be damaged against the underside of the tab. After releasing the latch with your right hand, use the blower against the tab to push the slide up and, free your right hand to assist in holding the blower. "Ball Plunger" installation: (optional) With a little practice most people will find it very easy to use the DB-1 without the plunger installed. However, when properly installed and adjusted the ball plunger will hold the sliding mechanism up approx. one inch and in the un-latched position (freeing both hands) until a blower is loaded on the rack. After a blower is installed the slide should, if the plunger is properly adjusted, drop and continue down until the latch engages. IMPORTANT: To prevent blowers from falling out of the rack, the latch MUST be checked to be certain it fully engages in the latched position after the slide is lowered. Thread the ball plunger (ball end first) into the threaded "weld nut" adjacent the upper hook engagement tab. It might be necessary to first remove any accumulated paint from the threads by running a 3/8" tap or bolt through the weld nut. Although the plunger has a built in thread locking element, you should also use a thread locking compound such as Loctite. When the slide is raised approx. one inch from the latched position, the plunger will engage the padlock hole at the top of the rack. Using a screw driver, adjust the plunger by turning it until the slide is automatically held in this position, yet raises or lowers with just slight effort. Lubricate plunger, latch and slide regularly to insure smooth operation. Blower tubes must be secured before transit. A standard long shackle padlock can be installed in the hole at the top of the upright to prevent the slide from raising thus helping prevent theft.
